Planners in Bali work in three main ways: a full-service fee on top of venue and vendor costs, all-inclusive packages that bundle venue, décor, photography and a celebrant, or day-of coordination only. Full-service planning usually runs from about IDR 36 million to IDR 180 million or more, depending on guest numbers and the planner's seniority. Partial planning starts at about IDR 18 million and day-of coordination at about IDR 9 million. Packaged elopements start at around IDR 26 to 32 million.
A legally registered marriage needs a religious ceremony followed by civil registration, and both partners must share one of Indonesia's recognised religions. Planners who handle legal weddings arrange the certificate of no impediment from your embassy, sworn translations and the registry officer, usually on the same day and at the same venue as the ceremony. Catholic weddings must take place in a Catholic church. Many couples marry at home first and hold a symbolic ceremony in Bali.
Book 12 to 18 months ahead for July to September and late December, when the best venues and planners fill first; 6 to 9 months is usually enough for an elopement or a weekday wedding. Ask for a written quote that separates planning fees, venue hire, service charge and government tax, as many hotels and villas add 21% on top of quoted prices.
