How it works in Bali

Booking photographers in Bali

Most Bali wedding photographers sell packages by the hour: four hours for an elopement or ceremony, eight hours for a standard wedding, and ten to twelve hours when preparations and the reception are included. Packages usually include one or two photographers, an online gallery of edited images and transport within south Bali. Albums, prints, a second shooter, drone and travel to Nusa Penida or the north coast are often extra.

Local studios start at about IDR 6.5 to 10 million for four hours. A full day with two photographers typically costs IDR 25 to 45 million, and multi-day luxury coverage with a larger team can pass IDR 100 million. Pre-wedding shoots are a separate product: a half or full day touring beaches, rice terraces and waterfalls, often with a make-up artist and driver included.

Book eight to twelve months ahead for dry-season dates between May and October, and earlier for the most sought-after teams. A deposit of 30 to 50 percent secures the date, with the balance due before or on the wedding day. Ask to see complete wedding galleries, not only highlights, and confirm who will actually shoot your day.

FAQ

Photographers: common questions

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Bali?

+

Local Bali studios start at about IDR 6.5 to 10 million for four hours of coverage. A full wedding day with two photographers usually costs IDR 25 to 45 million, and multi-day luxury coverage with a larger team can exceed IDR 100 million. Albums, extra hours, drone and travel outside south Bali are often charged separately, so compare what each package includes rather than the headline price.

How far ahead should we book a wedding photographer in Bali?

+

Book eight to twelve months ahead for weddings between May and October, the dry season, when Saturdays at popular clifftop and resort venues fill first. For the busiest teams, a year or more is safer. Weekday and rainy-season dates are easier, and smaller studios can sometimes take bookings two or three months out. Confirm your venue first, then secure the photographer with a deposit.

Do we need one photographer or two?

+

One photographer is enough for an elopement or a ceremony with fewer than 30 guests. For a full wedding with preparations in separate villas, a ceremony and a reception, two photographers are worth it: one can cover the groom while the other stays with the bride, and the second angle during the vows and speeches catches reactions a single shooter misses.

What is a pre-wedding shoot in Bali?

+

A pre-wedding shoot is a styled session before the wedding, popular with couples from Indonesia and across Asia. It usually runs half a day or a full day and moves between locations such as beaches, rice terraces, waterfalls and forests, sometimes with outfit changes and traditional Balinese costume. Many studios include a make-up artist, a driver and an assistant, and the images are often used on invitations and at the reception.

Can photographers shoot at temples, beaches and rice terraces?

+

Yes, but rules vary. Temples require modest dress with a sarong and sash, and some areas are closed to photography during ceremonies. Popular beaches, rice terraces and waterfalls may charge entry or a commercial shooting fee, and some private beaches only allow guests of the neighbouring venue. Good local photographers know these rules and build fees and timings into the plan.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

+

Short tropical showers are common, especially from November to March, and usually pass within an hour. Experienced Bali photographers carry clear umbrellas and lighting, and they scout covered spots at the venue in advance. Ask whether your package allows a portrait session to move to later in the day, or to the following morning, if the weather closes in at sunset.

When will we receive our wedding photos?

+

Most Bali studios send a small set of preview images within a few days, then the full edited gallery in four to eight weeks. Busy teams can take up to twelve weeks in peak season. Albums take longer because you choose the images and approve a layout first. Agree the delivery date in writing, and ask whether unedited files are available, as some studios include them.
