How it works in Bali

Booking hair & makeup in Bali

Bridal beauty in Bali comes from two kinds of supplier. Salon groups in Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur run mobile wedding teams with several artists, so they can handle large bridal parties, early starts and touch-ups through the day. Independent artists, many based in Denpasar or Jimbaran, work alone or with one or two assistants and usually cost less. Almost everyone travels to your villa, hotel or chapel, and the travel fee depends on distance: roughly IDR 350,000 to 600,000 around the south, and IDR 850,000 to 1,000,000 for Ubud, Tabanan or Karangasem.

Typical prices for the bride run from about IDR 2 million with an independent Indonesian artist to IDR 4.5 to 5 million with a Western-led salon team. Bridesmaids and mothers cost IDR 1.2 to 3.2 million each, a trial IDR 2 to 3.5 million, and an artist who stays on for touch-ups adds IDR 3.5 to 5 million for three to five hours. Salons usually take a 50% deposit and the balance 30 days before the wedding.

Book six to twelve months ahead for weddings between May and October and for any Saturday, especially if you need two or more artists. Schedule the trial a few days before the wedding once you are on the island, and bring photos, your veil and hair accessories.

FAQ

Hair & Makeup: common questions

How much does bridal hair and makeup cost in Bali?

+

The bride's hair and makeup usually costs from about IDR 2 million with an independent Indonesian artist to IDR 4.5 to 5 million with a Western-led salon team. Bridesmaids and mothers cost IDR 1.2 to 3.2 million each. Add a travel fee of IDR 350,000 to 1,000,000 depending on where you are staying, plus service charge and tax at salons.

Do makeup artists in Bali come to the villa or hotel?

+

Yes. Almost every bridal artist and salon team on the island works on location, at your villa, hotel room or the venue's bridal suite. Travel fees rise with distance from their base, so Ubud, Tabanan and East Bali cost more from a Seminyak or Denpasar studio. Some salons set a minimum of two people for on-location bookings or charge a single-person supplement.

Should I have a hair and makeup trial before my Bali wedding?

+

A trial is strongly recommended, especially if you have not met the artist. It costs about IDR 2 to 3.5 million, takes one to two hours and is usually held in the salon or studio a few days before the wedding. Wear white or a light top, bring inspiration photos, your veil and any hair pieces, and photograph the final look.

How far ahead should I book hair and makeup in Bali?

+

Book six to twelve months ahead for weddings in the dry season from May to October, for Saturdays, and for any party needing two or more artists. Popular salon teams fill peak dates early. For a small elopement in the wet season, two to three months is often enough, but you have fewer artists to choose from.

Will my makeup last in Bali's heat and humidity?

+

It can, if the artist preps the skin properly and uses long-wear or airbrush products. Ask whether they offer airbrush foundation, waterproof mascara and setting sprays, and plan an outdoor ceremony in the late afternoon rather than at midday. Booking an artist to stay for touch-ups, or carrying a small kit with lipstick and blotting papers, helps through a long day.

Can I get a traditional Balinese bridal look for my wedding?

+

Yes. Several Denpasar studios specialise in Balinese bridal makeup, headdresses and ceremonial attire, including the elaborate payas agung style. Couples often book it for portraits or an outfit change rather than the whole day, as the full look takes two to three hours. Ask whether costume rental and dressing are included in the price.

Do I need to pay a deposit for a Bali makeup artist?

+

Most salons ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit to hold the date, with the balance due around 30 days before the wedding. Independent artists often take a smaller deposit by bank transfer and the rest in cash on the day. Check the cancellation terms and whether you can reduce the number of people once the deposit is paid.

Do Bali hair and makeup teams look after grooms and guests?

+

Many do. Salon teams offer groom hair and makeup from about IDR 900,000, and some run pop-up barber services at the villa for groomsmen. Wedding guests can usually be added to the bridal booking for hair, makeup or both, which is simpler than finding separate appointments on a busy morning.
