Bambu Indah
An eco-resort in Sayan of antique Javanese houses and bamboo buildings above the Ayung River. Wedding spaces range from a tree house for 14 to the yoga shala, the main pool and The Island for 100, all built from bamboo and natural materials. It suits couples who want a handmade, natural look.
About Bambu Indah
Bambu Indah is a small hotel on the Sayan ridge outside Ubud, started in 2005 by John and Cynthia Hardy, who brought antique Javanese bridal houses to the land beside their own home. It has since grown to 24 houses and tents, built largely from bamboo, reclaimed timber and upcycled furniture, with its own rice paddies and kitchen gardens. Rooms are open to the air, and the property drops through jungle to the Ayung River, which shapes the look of every wedding held here.
There are four wedding settings, each sold as a package. The Tree House suits elopements for up to 14 guests, with a plated dinner and a night there for the couple. The Main Pool takes 50 with a floating altar and a poolside barbecue, and the bamboo Yoga Shala seats 50 on woven mats or bamboo chairs, with an optional Balinese blessing and a farm-to-table buffet. The Island, a private lawn by the river, hosts up to 100 with a buffet or set menu, a dance floor and a night in a bamboo house.
Styling stays natural: local flowers, palm leaves and pampas grass rather than heavy décor, with the bamboo structures left visible. Food and banquet staff are in-house, and the Main Pool package covers the local banjar fee. Guests can book the remaining houses for the wedding stay, from safari-style tents to multi-room Javanese homes, so the wedding party can sleep on site in Sayan, west of central Ubud. Enquiries go to the wedding team by email or through the hotel's WhatsApp line.
