25 Things to Do in Bali When It Rains (Rainy Season 2026–27)

25 Things to Do in Bali When It Rains (Rainy Season 2026–27)

By Baligasm14 MIN READ

Bali's rainy season runs from November to March, and January is usually the wettest month, with about 260 mm of rain falling on around 18 days. For 2026–27, a very strong El Niño is delaying the rains. Indonesia's meteorology agency BMKG expects a later and shorter season than usual: a few upland areas turn wet in late November, most of the island in December (around mid-December in Denpasar and the south), and the peak is forecast for February 2027. Once the rains arrive, BMKG expects normal rainfall for the season in the south, west and centre of Bali, and above-normal rainfall in the north and east. Showers often arrive in the afternoon or evening rather than all day, so a morning outdoors and an afternoon indoors is a good rhythm.

Bali's rainy season at a glance

MonthAverage rainfallWhat to expect
NovemberAbout 117 mmThe first showers; with El Niño in 2026, most days should stay dry
DecemberAbout 211 mmRain on many afternoons; in 2026 the rains reach the south around mid-month
JanuaryAbout 262 mmThe wettest month, with rain on about 18 days
FebruaryAbout 234 mmStill very wet; the 2026–27 peak is forecast for February
MarchAbout 150 mmShowers ease; the season ends in late March

Long-term average monthly rainfall in Denpasar. The dry season runs from April to October, and August is the driest month, with about 15 mm. In 2026–27, El Niño mainly shifts the timing: expect a drier November and early December than these averages, then a normal January and February.

Looking for things to do in Bali when it rains? The rainy season does not have to wash out your trip. Bali has plenty of indoor and covered activities, from art museums with batik and painting workshops to silver-jewellery and cooking classes, climbing gyms, IMAX cinemas, spas and an air-conditioned theatre show. Here are the 25 best things to do in Bali when it rains for 2026, grouped by area: Ubud, Kuta and Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, Nusa Dua and Uluwatu.

Things to Do in Ubud When It Rains

Ubud is the wettest of the main areas, but it also has the most indoor culture: museums with workshops, silver and coffee classes, a family cooking school and some of the island's best-value spas.

1. Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA)

Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA)

On Pengosekan Road in Ubud, the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) shows its permanent collection of Balinese, Indonesian and foreign art inside two museum buildings, from Kamasan paintings to works by Batuan artists of the 1930s and 1940s, alongside changing temporary exhibitions.

The museum also runs cultural workshops, including wood carving, batik, offering making and cooking classes, plus children's dance and gamelan classes, so a wet morning can become a hands-on lesson. Pair the galleries with a workshop and lunch at the museum's restaurant for a full rainy day under one roof.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is there to do in Bali when it rains?

Head indoors for culture, classes or wellness: museums such as ARMA, Puri Lukisan and Neka in Ubud or Museum Pasifika in Nusa Dua; cooking classes at Paon Bali (from IDR 350,000) or Bumbu Bali; silver-jewellery classes in Ubud and Uluwatu; climbing at Rock Island or Clip 'n Climb; a film at Icon Bali XXI's IMAX; or a spa such as Karsa, DaLa, Prana or AMO.

When is the rainy season in Bali in 2026–27?

Bali's rainy season runs from November to March, with January the wettest month (about 260 mm of rain on around 18 days). For 2026–27, a very strong El Niño is delaying the rains: BMKG expects a late, shorter season, with most of Bali turning wet in December (around mid-December in Denpasar and the south) and the peak in February 2027. Showers often fall in the afternoon or evening.

Will El Niño make Bali's 2026–27 rainy season drier?

Mostly it changes the timing, not the total. BMKG expects the rains to start late in every part of Bali, so November and early December 2026 should be drier than usual. Once the season starts, rainfall is forecast to be normal in the south, west and centre of Bali and above normal in the north and east, with the peak in February 2027.

What can kids do in Bali on a rainy day?

AeroXSpace Adventure in Sanur is a fully indoor adventure park (Family Pack IDR 1,000,000 for two adults and two children), Clip 'n Climb Bali costs IDR 220,000 for a 90-minute climb on weekdays, Mai Main in Canggu has a large indoor play area and pool (IDR 295,000 for one child and one adult), and Trans Studio Bali in Denpasar is a fully indoor theme park.

What are the best rainy day activities in Ubud?

What can you do in Canggu or Seminyak when it rains?
